I think you should make sure you state ILLEGAL immigrants. People are really upset because of the financial burden these people place upon all of us. That is fact, not fiction, not spin, fact. They were/are needed due to supply and demand, not to be underpaid and kept under the radar. There has always been a need in trades for people willing to learn and work hard. The legal immigration system works too slowly to supply those positions. If it wasn't for the inflow of labor our costs of construction would have outpriced our ability to pay. These people do NOT struggle to get by, they are paid well above a living wage if they are skilled and hardworking. They pay into the payroll tax system as well as the employer who uses the forged/falsified documents provided (which in the past they were prohibited from questioning even when notified by the SSA that account are incorrect). I personally received these notifications. The problem rarely stems from the workers and the services they provide. Nor does the fact they are here impact our economy in a negative way, they do provide a benefit. The problems arise from the other aspects. While a ideal, a large portion of their earnings are sent home and they chose the least expensive housing available in order to do so. They live in groups and be willing to sleep in outbuildings or other spaces in order to save money, money that under normal circumstances is put back into our economy. Money that should be for healthcare, rent and goods. They use emergency care for ALL medical needs if benefits are not provided. also become lonely enough to send for their families and establish residency here. Sending their to schools, demand benefits and healthcare. They have NO intention of becoming legal. Because not only do they not trust the system to provide it, they become responsible for the costs of services they receive. They're not dumb, they recognize the benefits of remaining illegal. I don't even fault 'em for wanting what they can get, it's a broken system.
