I used to work as a smoking cessation counselor. here is what we told folks: ~drink lots of water, it flush out the toxins your lungs start to excrete, and help with the coughing. ~what is your motivation? is it a? is it your health? is it the money? find a way to represent that motivation visually. if it's a keep a picture of them with you and look at is when you have a craving. if it's your health find one of those posters with the picture of the smokers lung next to the one. ~Find something to do with your hands when you have a craving, as lightingphilly suggested, knitting can be a great distraction. some folks need help with the oral fixation, maybe a carrot stick, straw, or even a cinnamon stick would be helpful. ~get yourself a support system. know anyone who has quit? tell the you are doing this and let them know how they can support you. ~ believe in yourself. I know you can do it.
