There are two historical arguments for queer rights "validity"(individual choices are valid) and "immutability"( people are born a certain way ie. black, physiy handicapped, or straight). Women and men be hardwired differently. Should the rights be unequal then? Bi people can choose so shouldn't they just choose to be straight? I'm bringing this up in reference to trans people because there used to be one universal definition of trans. All trans people were born with a different gender identity from their sex and this could be treated as a medical condition. Sure that is true for trans people but not all. Some people transition late in life and don't totally disassociate from their previous gender. Some people including FTM's choose to be non-op. Some people are gender variant and don't identify as M or F. I know a woman who takes testosterone but identifies as genderqueer not trans or male. I think her insurance should pay for it. How is this any different from Viagra? Insurance companies pay for that even for men not intending to reproduce because sexual well being is part of health. Anyway validity arguments include more people. This article is about Bi people and Bi rights in reference to the original thread but I think it raises interesting questions about people who don't fit into the traditional medical definition of trans. what you think ( about either bi or trans rights). He actually does suggest that bisexual rights benefit people ( ie. straight men can sexually harrass men because the legal system doesn't their actions as bisexual or sexual in nature, bisexuality isn't a recognized state so the assailents prove they are "straight" and get off).
