I have learned by living hand to mouth, day to day. When you live like that, you can't think " term." you think, "Where is my next meal coming from? Where am I going to sleep tonight?" You are right there is no reward for any added effort and I've found this to be true in the workplace as well. I am a retired school teacher. My parents are dead. Nobody takes care of me. I worked for my living. And it's turning out to be impossible to live with the cost of living (and staying while I'm still here) continues to skyrocket. I've seen it both ways because I've been worse off and I know a lot of people who are worse off than me. I'm also sick of people cheating to live off the government. But the system in this country keeps people there because it is just more damn profitable. Why doesn't the government start to subsidize jobs instead of deadbeats?
